CHAP IN THE BOX STUDIOS

Creative IP development and production

We create multi-platform properties that introduce children and young people to real-world interests. Whether it's sport or theatre, music or entrepreneurship, everything we do is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage action beyond the story

Sophisticated Silliness

OUR IP

Our work is underpinned by the belief that children deserve the very best of what storytelling can offer. We call our approach sophisticated silliness and, to us, this means taking fun seriously and treating joy with care. We work across animation, books, games, and live experiences - choosing the formats that give each project the greatest creative potential and most meaningful audience connection.

RockaBetty & The Rollers

Lucky Penny

With the help of graduate interns from Nottingham Trent University, the first season of this musical short-form show was brought from idea to digital distribution in less than 10 weeks.  RockaBetty introduces young children to music and rhythm, encourages co-viewing and active participation. RockaBetty was released in October 2024 and garnered over 55k organic views in its first 5 weeks on YouTube.

Developed with guidance from child development academics at the University of Derby, this social entrepreneurship property for children launches with an illustrated storybook. The book is now being piloted in schools as part of a research project led by the Derby team, assessing story impact and developmental alignment in real-world educational settings. It marks the beginning of Penny’s journey as a young change-maker, as she and her 5+ age readers learn that a little change can make a big difference in the world.

Tasty Marma

Supported by Innovate UK, Tasty Marma is bringing his gloriously chaotic take on cooking instruction to the digital world, while testing new production pipelines for social platforms. Marma’s bite-sized videos on TikTok and YouTube Shorts make cooking more accessible, especially for beginners and neurodivergent viewers. He’s also teaming up with universities to develop a Freshers’ starter pack: no-fuss recipes, real-life tips, and plenty of unsolicited life advice.

Connection and community

There are approximately 1100 active theatre buildings across the UK, but many are ‘at risk’ due to disrepair, closure, or redevelopment. As access to live performance declines - particularly outside major cities - many children risk growing up without ever experiencing the magic of theatre. The Ta-Dahs is a joyful, music-led property designed to introduce 5–8 year olds to the creativity, energy, and collaborative spirit of the stage. Through songs, humour, and story-driven content, it explores theatrical ideas like performance, expression, and teamwork in ways that feel playful, engaging, and accessible. With strong links to PSHE and creative curriculum aims, The Ta-Dahs encourages co-viewing and conversation at home and in the classroom—supporting children’s personal development while building familiarity with the world of theatre. As a digital-first property, it helps remove barriers of cost, geography, and exposure—making theatre feel exciting, welcoming, and made for everyone.

Fizz Pup & Lazlow is a short-form animated/live action IP that opens the door to Olympic sports for curious kids. From gymnastics and athletics to judo, fencing, and BMX, each episode introduces a new sport through the eyes of Lazlow, a pampered lap cat, and Fizz, his family’s energetic new puppy. With real athlete interviews and laugh-out-loud animated segments, the show makes sport feel fun, friendly, and accessible for children in upper Key Stage 1 and lower Key Stage 2. Designed to spark curiosity and lower the physical, emotional and geographic barriers to initial sports introduction, Fizz Pup and Lazlow is a fresh, funny way to get kids into sport—while giving grown-ups something to enjoy too. Currently in development, the IP has potential to cross mediums, with characters that will be recognisable (and fun!) mascots for kids' sport.

Every Christmas Eve, Richard plays the grand piano at the village hotel. He enjoys sharing his gift. But this year, Richard arrives to find there's a new manager in town...and it soon becomes clear he no longer “fits the vibe.” Told with humour, heart, and cinematic flair in the spirit of an alternative John Lewis Christmas ad, this short film is a creative way to explore loneliness and disconnection at Christmas, especially in later life. Through visual storytelling and a moving original Christmas song, it reminds us that the season should be a time of welcome and inclusion, and that its the little things that can make people feel part of the community. The film is supported by a complementary social media campaign: “Never Could Be Christmas Without...” invites people to finish the sentence with their own festive must-haves - whether it’s Yorkshire puddings, crackers, a particular song, or someone they love. The UGC campaign is designed for TikTok and Shorts to encourage reflection, conversation, and connection.
